FAQs & Rules
What to expect?
A friendly neighborhood get together + Bocce! This is a social league intended to bring ER residents together, so expect to eat, drink, be merry and roll a ball!
What do I bring:
When you can, please bring food & drinks for you and your neighbors to share! Don’t forget to bring your own cups & serving utensils. Plates, napkins and other utensils will be available but supplies for the season are limited. No glass please!
What do I wear:
While athletic skill isn’t required for Bocce, athletic clothing is recommended! Make sure you’re wearing clothes that are comfortable and you can move in. Sneakers are recommended! Please don’t wear “boots” or heels, as the courts are made of shells and are delicate.
What happens if I can’t make it?
The 2024 season runs 5/15- 8/22 with an all league end of season potluck party on August 29, mark your calendars now! While this is primarily a social league we appreciate your commitment to the schedule. Teams cannot play without all 4 players there on time. If you can’t make it or are running late, please let your capo know immediately & leverage the sub list on the site to find coverage. There will be penalties for incomplete teams at the start of each game.

What's a Capo?
A capo is your team capitan. Each week, the capos will receive email reminders & updates from the league and they are responsible for communicating information to their teams. In addition, capos need to ensure they have a full team each week (secure subs if needed) and they will partner with Court Officials to solve disputes/questions during games.

What’s the deal with Court Officiating? See Court Officiating Tab
This year each team is required to officiate two shifts, in addition to your regular scheduled nights of play. Court Officiating slots are reserved on a first come first serve basis via the website. You must sign up to work shifts in leagues other than your own. “Officials” will be in charge of:
-
Setting up the court: Please arrive AT LEAST 15 minutes early to unload the equipment from the courtside bins & set up courts and picnic tables with party supplies.
-
Starting & ending games on time: This year we’ve eliminated the coin toss to streamline the game start process. Officials will need to start the game & keep time, ensuring all games end at 55 past the hour. No ball is counted if rolled after end-of- game horn is sounded.
-
Post game play: collect equipment and put it back into courtside bins. Break down party tables and return supplies to bins. Ensure the broom is rehung properly and locked up (combo is ‘ball’).
-
Take pictures of the game score sheets for all games played during your shift and text them to Irina 801-699-5679
-
Help capos with rule disputes: There is a laminated rule sheet at each court. Please refer to this sheet should there be any confusion on the rules. Ultimately capos are required to resolve disputes with one another, the official is there to help facilitate.
